Plastic Kills

It all started in the UC Berkeley Extension class “Printmaking and Street Art as Activist Tools”. I wanted to learn printmaking techniques and art that grappled with ideas that were important to me.  Researching topics that mattered, protecting the environment resonated with me.  I started learning about plastic and learned what a problem it causes for the environment. And now I’m really MAD!

For my first print, I made linocut to call attention to one aspect of the plastic problem.  Sea turtles eat plastic floating in the water mistaking plastic for a jelly fish or other food.  It’s not hype or an internet hoax.  It’s really happening.  These turtles are endangered, and our carelessness with plastic is contributing to the problem.
