As a follow-up to the warm landscape collage, I decided to try for a cool beach scene.
A few weeks ago I went on the Coastal Trail hike in San Francisco from Land’s End to Mile Rocks Beach. As I turned the corner I saw that some previous beach walkers had created some cool rock pile formations. Fortunately I had my camera with me and I was able to take this photo of their artwork.
I shared the picture on Facebook. A fellow art quilter commented, “Incredible! Ready-to-frame art! Quilt inspiration??” Since then, the idea of including the image in art work(s) has been percolating in the back of my mind. Adding the rock pile image onto one of my collages seemed the natural next step. I created a collage background and superimposed the image of just the rocks using TAP (Transfer Artist Paper). Pretty Cool!!!
This project was one of the final color study assignments in Jane Davies’ online class Unlocking the Secrets of Color
.
def inspiring!
