Yellow Shoes selected for Kresge Art Museum

I just learned that my Yellow Shoes art quilt was selected to be part of the permanent collection of the Kresge Art Museum at Michigan State University.

As I indicated in an earlier blog post, this little 9″ x 9″ quilt will be part of SAQA‘s 2011-2013 This is a Quilt traveling trunk show.  The goal of the show is to help explain the definition of an art quilt.  SAQA defines an art quilt as “a contemporary artwork exploring and expressing aesthetic concerns common to the whole range of visual arts: painting, printmaking, photography, graphic design, assemblage and sculpture, which retains, through materials or technique, a clear relationship to the folk art quilt from which it descends.” This definition is purposely broad to accommodate the wondrous and exciting art quilts SAQA members are creating.

From the 268 pieces in the trunk show, gallerist Michael Solomon selected 50 to become part of the permanent collection a the Michigan State University Museum.

  1. I remember seeing this at the convention this summer and it was one of the most memorable and one of my favorites. Congratulations-quite a high honor!
