The Olive Hyde Gallery’s Annual Textile Exhibit features fiber art from artists from the Bay Area and Northern California. Several artists from our local SAQA region will have work in the show. These artists include: Mel Beach, Lynne Born, Deb Cashatt, Adriane Dedic, Giny Dixon, Jane Haworth, Lynn Koolish, Ally Kraus, Zwia Lipkin, Ann Mayse, Dolores Miller, Denise Oyama-Miller, Priscilla Read, Carole Rossi, Claire Sherman, Cindy Sojourner, Ileana Soto, and Martha Wolfe.

My piece started with the 5 improv blocks that I made a few years ago. I wanted to find an exciting way to set them off. I found some Dutch Wax print fabric from Africa in my stash that I was saving for the right quilt. I found they went well with the blocks. I tried different/unexpected sashing arrangements with some irregular striped fabric. The black and white African print fabrics worked well as a border.

For the quilting, I used a combination of free motion and ruler quilting to provide interest and texture in the various sections of the quilt. See detail below.
